After months of planning and preparation, TBF's fall campaign has finally come to an end. TBF wants to thank everyone that put time and energy into Shades of Green, BKLYN: 111, and/or our kick off gatherings at Tea Lounge,Cozbi's, and Union Hall. This was TBF's first major fundraising campaign and we are so thrilled about the outcome. TBF raised funds and more importantly raised awareness in the community. At a time of financial crisis across the country, TBF was still able to bring people and organizations in. We drank, we laughed, we conversed, we discussed; in the end, we achieved our goal in making TBF a staple of the Park Slope/Gowanus area.

Eric Strauss, our first TBF single parent artist who received his award from Borough President Marty Markowitz at Shades of Green, is living proof that we can make a difference in the artistic community. TBF is currently in the process of reviewing
applications for the high school artist program and will continue to grow and branch out into the community with your help.

Once again, thanks for everything! Thanks for coming! Thanks for the effort! Thanks for your time!

{Shades of Green Benefit Concert}

The title refers to The BAG Fund’s role as a supportive agent of the
creative ecosystem – promoting sustainability for art and artists. Shades of Green will be an eco-friendly (green) festive event, taking place at the Center for the Urban Environment on Friday November 7, 2008 from 6-12am.

BKLYN: 111 Exhibition Party October 25th

BKLYN: 111 was a smashing success. We did something that was not only fun, but we started an important conversation about art. People realized that art can be a part of their lives in ways they hadn't imagined. Many people were already saying that they can't wait until next year!

Sorry you missed our awesome event? Good news for you is that we still have art available for purchase through November 10th. Tell your friends and family. First come, first serve. All the works of art were valued at more than the ticket price of $200. Art works are all still priced at $200, and all proceeds go to The BAG Fund.

Fundraising Event Schedule

The BAG Fund is excited to expand its scope and capacity this fall. We aim to raise funds to award new artists studio space and forge new alliances in order to serve better the creative community. Our Fall Campaign consists of inspiring events and exhibition programs, held from early October until our inaugural annual fundraiser event, Shades of Green, on Friday, November 7th.

BKLYN:111

In celebration of Brooklyn's 111th year as a New York City Borough, The BAG Fund presented BKLYN:111, an exhibition, fundraising event, and dialogue about our urban space both as environment and as a participating factor in the creative process, on October 25th.

It opened on October 18th with a reception during the AGAST Studio Tour, and closed in grand fashion on October 25th with the "Everybody Gets Art" party.

At "Everybody Gets Art," 110 works of art from 65 artists hung on the wall, obtained during an 11 second art frenzy.

All the works of art were valued at more than the ticket price of $200, and several works are still available for purchase, through November 10th. Art works are all still priced at $200, and all proceeds go to The BAG Fund.

Shades of Green Fund-Raiser Party

Party: Friday, November 7th, 6pm till midnight

The title refers to The BAG Fund's role as a supportive agent of the creative ecosystem--promoting sustainability of/for art and artists. Shades of Green will be an eco-friendly festive event, taking place at the Center for the Urban Environment, at 168 7th St., on Friday, November 7th, from 6pm until midnight.

The BAG Fund, a nonprofit organization that supports the creative process by providing artists with studio space and technical support at critical points in their life cycle, invites you to attend a press preview on Friday, October 17th between 3 and 6pm, of BKLYN:111 – a special exhibition exploring the impact Brooklyn has made on artists and the impact artists will have on Brooklyn as the borough celebrates 111 years as part of New York. The limited exhibition officially opens to the public on Friday, October 17th, with a opening reception on Saturday, October 18th, and closes in grand fashion with a festive gala--"Everybody Gets Art"--on Saturday, October 25th.

Supporters BKLYN:111 will have the opportunity to see creations of photography, video, painting, sculpture, installation, illustration and more. But on October 25th, at "Everybody Gets Art", supporters will not only meet and mingle with the creators but also take one of 110 works of art home with them. The final--111th--piece will be a short film that will document the art frenzy: supporters taking a work of art off the wall on October 25th.

Says Michele Jaslow, Director and Chief Curator of the BAG Gallery, "Hundreds of artworks were donated by emerging and established artists to support The BAG Fund and fellow artists in Brooklyn. All the 110 pieces of work in the exhibit are valued at more than $200 and were carefully selected based on content, technical skill and context of contemporary art. Anyone who gets an artwork will be pleased with its quality and originality."

BKLYN:111 celebrates The BAG Fund's role in the creative ecosystem of Brooklyn as the borough approaches its 111th year as part of New York City. As Brooklyn preserves its distinct culture, independent art scene, and unique architectural heritage, BKLYN:111 explores the impact Brooklyn has made on artists and the impact artists have and will have on Brooklyn.

Ticket price for "Everybody Gets Art" on October 25th is $200. All proceeds benefit The BAG Fund and the arts community in Brooklyn.

BKLYN:111 is organized by The BAG Fund, a nonprofit organization that supports the creative process by providing artists with studio space and technical support at critical points in their life cycle. This exhibition is made possible by over 65 artists who donated 110 original pieces of art from the traditional to the abstract and conceptual to support The BAG Fund's mission and ultimately the arts community in Brooklyn. In return, the artists will receive admission to The BAG Fund's inaugural fundraiser on November 7th – Shades of Green, which promotes the sustainability of artists, art and the environment.

A nonprofit corporation based in Brooklyn, New York, The BAG Fund (TBF) supports the creative process by providing artists with studio space and technical support at critical points in their life cycle. Created in 2005, The BAG Fund has three main programs: High-School Artist Program, Single-Parent Artist Program and Estate Art Program. The High-School Artist Program is to support promising young artists by offering scholarships for studio space as well as mentorship; the Single-Parent Artist Program is to provide single parent artists with studio space for one year; and the Estate Art Program assists with the body of work of a deceased artist by curating, cataloguing, storing, showing and renting or selling work. Kick-Off Gatherings

So, October 6th began our first gathering @ the Tea Lounge on Court St. in Carroll Gardens. Though somewhat smaller in size than the Tea Lounge on Union, the atmosphere was fuzzy, cozy, and warm for a chilly October night. On October 8th at Cozbi, on Court St., we had wine, cheese, and merry-making in the evening. Finally, on October 11th, splendid times were had by all as we convened at Union Hall, where we enjoyed tasty potent beverages and a couple of readings; there was mingling and conversation, and it was lovely.

Come together, right now.

The BAG Fund’s mission is to help support the creative process by providing artists with studio
space and technical support at critical points in their life cycle.

The BAG Fund (TBF) sees itself as supportive agents of the creative ecosystem. We invest in the future by providing talented high school artists with studio space and mentorship for one year. We invest in the present by assisting the single parent artist with studio space when priorities change. We secure the past with meaningful preservation of an artist’s legacy when they pass on. TBF is determined to support and grow with the artist community of Brooklyn not only for the betterment of the artist, but the global community who benefit from their work.

TBF is a non-profit organization that was conceived in 2005. We are near the F and R trains, and within easy access of Park Slope, Carroll Gardens, Red Hook, Boerum Hill and Fort Green.
